Nightwear, nightmare.

I’ve always just pulled my hair up into a ponytail to sleep in. For me, it’s always been the most practical way. When dating and having company over night I always worried if someone took one look at my Einsteinesque locks in the morning, they’d be running for the hills!

Now, I’m married, I only have to contend with hubby laughing at my crazy bed head and he does, very much so, find it amusing some days.

The problem with ponytailing it, is it pulls all the curl pattern out of shape overnight. Meaning if you are not washing it next morning you have no defined curls to refresh properly.

On researching better methods of sleeping, other curly girls have suggested a buff. A buff, I soon learned is a fabric tube on head to protect curls.

Hair Buff

Luckily for me I had one of these kicking about. It’s pink and leopard print! So, I gave it a go.

Imagine hubby’s excited anticipation when I inform him that I’m going to sleep in a buff! Hubby was sorely disappointed but equally amused and said I looked like a little old Eastern European lady as I went to bed. It wasn’t successful. I didn’t like sleeping with head wear on. And it fell off in night!

Next attempt. So, while researching I came across advice of satin bonnets for sleeping in. This maybe is an answer as they aren’t as restricting as the buff. EBay got my attention for something cheap to try.

Cue much hilarity for hubby as I donned on my new bonnet one night.

When your bonnet matches your bedding!

Now, I looked like some weird camp pirate as it has tails to tie at base of neck! All I was missing was an eye patch!

The bonnet stayed on all night and seemed to work in preserving my curl pattern better. We are progressing.

British summertime hits. It’s too hot, even at night to contemplate headwear to sleep in. Decide to take a plunge and sleep lose. No pinning or pulling up. No pineapple. No buff. No bonnet. Just as nature intended.

Well, pleasantly surprised by the morning after. Curls preserved fairly well and that’s how I sleep now!
